I believe that they can't do it, you'd need entirely new tooling for her, The only thing they could do
is make variants of other international birds by using a big bird's body

Hey guys, I understand that this was pretty much the easiest variant NECA could have produced to be labelled as Volume 6 and released in the window before , just paint the regular Volume 5 Big Bird blue. Instant repaint!

What I'm asking here is, how hard would it have been to take that regular Volume 5 Big Bird and turn it into a figure of Miss Finch instead?

It's likely a matter of rights. We don't know for sure, but it seems NECA doesn't have the rights to Follow That Bird. The Blue Big Bird has no FTB branding and it lacks the collar and pants from the movie. They had to make it a generic Blue Big Bird.

If NECA doesn't have the right to give Big Bird pants and a collar, I doubt they have the rights for characters specific to the movie so Ms Finch probably isn't in the cards.

Also, they may not have the rights for the international Big Birds, though Super7 appears to with their license so maybe NECA does as well. It would be great if there was a secret Pino head coming with the Blue Big Bird, but I doubt it.

If NECA doesn't have the right to give Big Bird pants and a collar, I doubt they have the rights for characters specific to the movie so Ms Finch probably isn't in the cards.

Also worth noting that even if they don't have the rights to Follow That Bird, there's nothing stopping NECA from adding a collar and pants to a future accessory pack, so we can dream...

Thanks for the replies, didn't know that NECA doesn't have the rights to FTB... We'll wait for the pre-orders to go up for sale tomorrow to get the details on Vol 6.

And even if it's just a blue painted Big Bird, if I purchase him, I'll call him Pino in the collection lineup. Especially since there are PVC figurines that have been produced that are literally blue painted Big Birds identified as Pino.

I hope this blue Big Bird sells well enough to help the line. Since I have little interest in buying it, and I assume I'm on the upper end of the spectrum of interest in the line overall, I wonder how many NECA will be able to sell. As others have pointed out, it's an easy repaint for a figure and a con exclusive; so, the costs are probably pretty low. I just hope that it is a net benefit for the line and doesn't create financial or optics concern for the line. If sales are as low as I expect them to be, I'm worried it could make NECA leadership question the line.

I recently heard somewhere that sales of the first three figures weren't great, and potentially not high enough for NECA to continue the line, but Super Grover and Big Bird sold much better. That maybe someone misinterpreting Trevor's comments about Super Grover and Big Bird sales being high to mean sales of the other 3 figures were low. From everything I've seen, the line seems to be a hit. But, I guess I have no actual knowledge about sale numbers. I certainly hope sales are strong enough for NECA to make a ton more figures.

You don't need to worry, that blue bird is going to be made in low quantities, so it will probably sell out in a day or two or even faster

I think you are underestimating the number of collectors with OCD. Being Volume 6 in a numbered series is enough to get a lot of people to buy it even if they are only sort of interested in it otherwise.

Blue Big Bird is live. Limit two per household. We'll see how long he lasts. Hopefully, an orange Oscar from the first season will follow soon in 2027.
