Here's something we can all keep in mind: Caroll may not be able to make it to Season 50, but even before anybody even thought about a Season 50 - even before anybody thought about a Season 40, he said he wanted to stick with it until he physically could no longer . . . and he did. In fact, he stuck with it even longer than that: even as his physical capabilities deteriorated, he continued to dub voices as long as he could as well.

So yes, it's disappointing that Caroll has retired before we get to Season 50, but we should be thankful, grateful, and appreciative that he lived up to his initial goals to hang in there as long as he was physically able to.

Take it from someone who met him recently. He is in absolutely no shape to voice him anymore.
What about Season 50...Surely they're saving Carol's final hurrah as :wisdom: and :grouchy: for the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street, right ?

We all grew up with Caroll and hearing this is just plain hard. :frown:

Besides we still all those memories of Carroll Spinney performing and plus Matt and Eric are two wonderful performers doing Big Bird and Oscar The Grouch.

At the end of the day, 50 is just an arbitrary number that we put importance into. 48 years is still a huge achievement and I am glad he was able to help pick and train his replacements over a long period of time. His characters are in good hands. Honestly, I can hardly tell when Erick is doing Oscar.
