Let's Take a Stand:The Muppet Show Season 4 and 5

Everything what Slackbot said is true. And I want to adress something else. Now would be the perfect timing for a Muppet Show dvd set. But if they wanted to release it, they should have started last year with remastering the tapes, creating menu's, cutting the parts they don't have the rights for anymore.
What I heard from Disney was that a lot of music had to be cut from Season 4. In the first seasons there were a lot of fan celebrity's who wanted to be in the show. But the last seasons a lot of people were there just because it was good publicity. And those people are saying no for the dvd release. And they had to cut too much to release it. It's just what I heard years ago. If it's true, we will not see this footage really soon.

They claimed they had all the music rights worked out back 5 years ago when it was supposed to come out. Either they had to renegotiate them, or they were lying.

If it is indeed the music rights issue, there's nothing that could be done. Music rights are the worst thing in the world to negotiate. They'll refuse a home video usage, but then go behind the back of the artist and use their songs to sell denture cream and enhancement medication. If its a bunch of sourpuss celebrities (or worse, they're even sour-er estates) refusing to basically get free money from residuals, also can't be helped. It would be nice to place the blame on the crotchety old misers that buy up rights for the sake of owning them. But the least Disney can do at that point is make a direct press release saying that's the case. We're adults. We can handle the truth (if that is the case). Just be the big man and come out and say that these selfish old coots are the problem.

But if this is Disney just not wanting to release a DVD set because it's a DVD set, then they have only themselves to blame for the last movie barely making back its budget.

They've done a great job trying before the movie came out... even a little after then. They can't help it if March sucked for every movie, nor can they help that Dreamworks moved Peabody and Sherman to March after Rise of the Guardians confused away potential audiences (which sucks, since that was a relatively good movie). It's just, Disney HATES Box sets. Even their popular current programming (including Phineas and Ferb and Marvel series) came in crappy single disk or 2 disk out of order mishmashes. They completely abandoned their Disney Afternoon DVD releases, and those didn't even have half the care that went into The Muppet Show releases (they couldn't get Jim Cummings to do an interview? Really?) Disney has done much worse with some of their own properties than they've done with The Muppets.

Sure they have tired, and the boxed sets we got where good, but regardless, they still have been trying to find what place the Muppets have in the Disney family, and they still have not figured it out.
