I'm still confused how saying the name of an actress is a spoiler, but whatever...

If Muppet fan hadn't said anything about it, I don't think anyone who hasn't seen the movie would have known it was a spoiler or even care

Huh:confused:. Spoiler. Anyway, I'm hoping it bombs, because Franco is only good at playing stoners, and if Disney wanted to make an Oz prequel they should've just bought the rights to Wicked, which already has a fanbase all its own.
Well, Wicked was supposed to be a movie, and then a lot of crap happened and the rights got lost. And let's face it, they'd find a way to make it not as good as the musical anyway.

Eh, they'd cut a number or two and make it too gimmicky and Hollywood. You know, like all theatrical versions of musicals. Besides, last I heard, they wanted to make it an animated feature. That woulda been... something? :ouch:

Seriously, as great a film as the original is, it really screwed up any chance of any other adaption of WOZ ever after, except Wicked. Not that there were any particularly notable examples, but there's such rampant adaption displacement. And now no one can ever go back and re-adapt the film to be more accurate to the book.

I also heard at one point they WERE considering Lea Michele to play Elphaba.

Disney spoiled the witch reveal a long time ago. There have been products out bearing this "spoiler" for quite some time.

I think that poster of Rachel Weisz dressed in what looks like a trashy Halloween costume as the Wicked Witch of the West sums up the film pretty well. Of course, for legal reasons, Disney wanted their Wicked Witch to look as different as possible from that of the MGM classic, and I think they tried a little too hard. The NPR review said Disney even had to use a different shade of green for the Emerald City to avoid legal issues with MGM.
What's with the hatred? The style in MGM's Oz was also inherently garish for their day so I don't understand the criticism for this costume except for the fact it is not an exact replica. It looks good to me. And while Franco is not my favorite actor, he's put in some solid performances in James Dean, City by the Sea and Milk.

The reason why Disney didn't make Wicked is because Universal owns the rights to that picture and it's been stuck in development. Personally, I'd rather someone just go back to the books and forget all the previous tellings, but this film looks fun. It can't be worse than Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland or ABC's Once Upon A Time program.

Oz is already on track to make over $70 this weekend so it will likely be a hit. That's a good thing for the film industry and for theaters too. I respect the tastes and opinions of others, but I cannot support wanting others to fail. That's just unmuppety.

Well, Scooterfan also posted about it. But it's fine. Not too far in to the movie do you find out the spoiler. Not too much of a spoiler anyway.
