Oz won't quite hit the level of Burton's Alice in Wonderland even though the story appears to be much more fleshed out. The fact that Raimi has no interest in developing the sequel with Disney serves as a red flag to me so I hope it's good. I hear it's worth seeing, but not ground-breaking. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
Burton's Alice in Wonderland had a built in fanbase that would see almost anything Tim Burton put his hands on. Unfortunately for him, they seem to have left him with the last 2 films he did. The last film had no fanservice whatsoever (which makes me love it all the more).

I dunno. Just looking at this film says "this is going to be a big expensive failure." No wonder Disney's so keen on releasing The Muppets...Again next March. The budget is low enough to turn a profit, even if the film doesn't do all that well. John Carter was essentially an ego piece, but let's face it. Most films are ego pieces with lousy scripts and they still manage to make money somehow. I'm sure this Oz thing isn't going to be as big a problem as John Carter, mainly because people have heard of Wizard of Oz. I've heard that the 3-D special effects overtake the film. But then again, look how colorfully gimmicky the original film was.

I'm working myself over The Croods. I don't know if I want to bother, but I might. I'd rather see Burt Wonderstone than any of these other films.

What I want to see is G.I. Joe go down. Just out of spite due to the fact they screwed over G.I. Joe Renegades for it, twice. Especially since they pulled the movie for almost a year, meaning G.I.JR will be on permanent hiatus. Sigh... Hasbro has such great cartoons that always get screwed over for terrible movies.

I think that poster of Rachel Weisz dressed in what looks like a trashy Halloween costume as the Wicked Witch of the West sums up the film pretty well. Of course, for legal reasons, Disney wanted their Wicked Witch to look as different as possible from that of the MGM classic, and I think they tried a little too hard. The NPR review said Disney even had to use a different shade of green for the Emerald City to avoid legal issues with MGM.

I only saw half of Oz. I had to urgently leave, (on opening night!), but I'll probably go see the rest another time. I was about an hour into the film.

Personally, I don't think James Franco was such a bad choice after all. He played the part very well, but at most times he was just ridiculous. (The hot air baloon scene... *facepalm* )

The beginning is so well done, and I love the old style black and white it starts off with. The monkey was annoying, and so was China Doll. There were some good call-backs, but I'm not giving anything away....

Huh:confused:. Spoiler. Anyway, I'm hoping it bombs, because Franco is only good at playing stoners, and if Disney wanted to make an Oz prequel they should've just bought the rights to Wicked, which already has a fanbase all its own.

Didn't ruin it for me. I already saw past that part.
But take it down anyway, don't want it to be ruined for other people.
