Because back in the Old School/Unpaved era of Sesame Street episodes, the fifth episode of a week was the one that aired on Fridays. And that usually the day/episode used to show off the full closing sequence, complete with the full version of the theme song with harmonica riffs and the casts' credits as well.

Oh... well... why would they wait until Fridays to air the closing credits? That doesn't make sense.

*Ahem... For a better non-bias explanation... Friday is the last day of the five-day workweek, before ajurning for the weekend. So Sesame Street used to air the credit crawl with the full show ending on Fridays.
Hope this helps.

Still doesn't make sense; they should've had the closing credits at the end of every episode.

Also, starting with Season 30 (1998) when they began re-making the classic Sesame Street theme and introduced "Elmo's World," the full closing credits would also appear on the season premiere episode. This was done until 2003. I also hope they stop using that 1992 calypso-style music that is always used to introduce a street scene. It, too, is outdated like the current closing credits.

Well, the Friday closing credits are what they have done sense the beginning of the show. But it's only recently that they stopped doing that. But all CTW shows did thins. MR Rogers did this also.
