Ever wonder about those Sesame Street characthers that simply dropped off the face of the earth without any explination? I often wonder what ever happened to.....

1.Ferlinghetti Donizetti
2. Davey and Joey
3.Ruby Monster
4.Monty
5.Roxie Marie
6.Flo Bear

Now I'll give the reason they were most likely dropped from the show, and you all can tell me what you think.

1. It's possible the charachter was dropped for the same reason Roosevelt Franklin was about a decade earlier, he was played by an African American and was always rapping and rhyming.

2. The workshop seemed to have a problem with one note charachters that debut after the 4th Season. While charachters like Cookie, Count, Fat Blue, and Simon Soundman seem to have made the cuts for almost 4 decades, later added one noters like Dr. Nobel Price, The Television Monster, and Preston Rabbit seemed to go out the door rather quickly, with Price only lasting about a handful of seasons, The Television Monster turning into Telly, and Preston only lasting for one episode it's obvious one noters just don't make the cuts the way they used to.

3. Ruby Monster, seemed to appear every now and then from 1988-1994. They must have had a hard time figuring out just what they could do with the charachter, and nothing seemed to work. Also once charachters like Rosita and Zoe came along poor Ruby just didn't have a chance.

4. Monty seemed to suffer the same fate as Proffesor Hastings did after the first Season of Sesame Street. Monty lasted all of 2 Seasons, 1992-1994. He was an adult Muppet, who talked a little too much about boring pointless topics. Unlike proffesor Hastings he tried to make boring topics interesting, by expressing himself in a unique way. Obviously he didn't turn out to be what the SS writers were looking for. :frown:

5. Roxie Marie was introduced around 92??? as Biff's niece. At this point there was a lot of new charachters coming along, slowly taking over. Roxy was one of them, but being a classic charachter's niece she just didn't stand a chance, seeing as how Biff was at the end of his carreer as a Sesame Street construction worker. Biff was an outdated charachter. Roxie was the outdated charachter's neice. So as a result they were both booted from the show around the same time.

6. Flo Bear: Well Flo was David Rudman's first regular charachter on Sesame Street. Introduced around 86 or 87. Once Baby Bear came aboard, she was obviously no match for the little Bear from the old Fairy Tale we know and love. And David put her in hibernation permantley and stuck with Baby Bear.

Just a few thoughts on our old forgotten friends. They probably all currently live together in the Sesame Workshop attic. :stick_out_tongue:

In Kevin Clash's autobiography, there is a paragraph where he talks about his characters who didn't last long, and he referred to Ferlingetti Donizetti as "the rhyming beatnik who didn't catch on".

I'm thinking that with the one note characters that the writers must have just got frustrated with them or somthing. By the way, I would like to know what happend tp Mary Monster? She used to sneek up on people and scare them and be really loud.

I remember Mary quite well. I don't know when she started on the show, but I know her last season was Season 25. A lot of newer charachters were added that season, plus a whole new part of the street, and I guess once Zoe came along they felt like they had no place for Mary on the show anymore.
