I like to use rubber gaskets. they are flexable and sturdy. For my 5ft long by 3ft high whale i used 1/8 inch plywood. For sm puppets I use cardboard

I'm building the mouth plate for a large alligator right now and using Coroplast (corrugated plastic, the stuff they make lawn signs out of). It's a really big mouth and it has to be light and sturdy with a bit of bend in it.

Haha, i used to have these as foam base before i started working with reticulated foam :embarrassed:

To join the discussion i'll say this;
I've been using foamies as mouthplates before, but i find them too thick really. I am just starting a new puppet and it's the first one i'll be using gasket rubber. I am going to start collecting plastic ice-cream-box-lids too and try that out.
