What do you think Jim Henson’s opinion would be of characters introduced after his death such as Rosita, Zoe, and Abby Cadabby?

It is well-established that Jim Henson enjoyed working on Sesame Street and took its educational mission and his role on the show very seriously.

With this in mind, do you think he would have taken a liking to certain characters introduced after his passing like Rosita and Zoe?

I don’t think he was ever revealed to have disliked any of the major Muppets that weren’t his direct creations (I’ve read some people say he would’ve disliked Elmo, but most of us here know that Jim was alive when Elmo was introduced and he did several Elmo sketches in the late ‘80s with Ernie), so I don’t think he would’ve had any objections especially since Rosita and Zoe were originated by performers he knew and liked such as Carmen Osbahr and Fran Brill. What about a character like Abby Cadabby?

Overall, what are your thoughts? Do you think Jim would’ve regarded most of the post-1990 Muppets as good additions? Do you think he would’ve taken a liking to any particular new character?

I’m sure he would have liked them. Personally I think Muppet fans are guilty of using him as a weapon to say how “Sesame Street” or “The Muppets” have gone downhill since his passing and it’s really unfair to him since he’s dead.

I don't know if anyone here has read the Richard Hunt biography that came out last year, but it was made pretty obvious in that book that Jim Henson (and Frank Oz as well) were not nearly as involved in Sesame Street matters after The Muppet Show took off and they became more well-known. They would come to tape a bunch of segments on one day when their schedules allowed them, which is why Jim and Frank characters are not in that many street segments.

I'm sure Jim would be happy with the new characters though, I really don't see a reason why he would not like them.
