They appear in "The Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Muppet Treasure Island". I have no idea what they are, but they're little furry creatures with big eyes, and stringy purpleish-red hair.

I think that the creatures you are referring to are known as The Inkspots. They were created for Fraggle Rock and have appeared in various henson productions since then, including The Jim Henson Hour (I think) and the Kokomo music video.

The Nostalgia Critic recently did a "Top 11 Villain Songs" video, and number ten (or nine maybe) was "Shiver My Timber" from MTI; it was actually quite amusing how when he came to the Inkspots performing a verse in the song, he simply refered to them as "Whatever the heIl those are."
