Water Pipe?

You know, I love the song "Clink, Clank" sung by Bert, but there's one line that I don't understand. The song is about Bert playing music with a can, spoon, whistle, pan, and marbles. So why does he say "It was just the water pipe when the faucet got turned on, But it lightened up my life like a nightingale's sweet song"? Where does the water pipe come in? I may have missed something obvious, but I can't see it. Anyone?

I may have missed something obvious, but I can't see it. Anyone?

Here's what I think it means: in some buildings, water pipes make clanky sounds when water passes thru, so when someone turned the faucet on in 123 Sesame Street Bert heard it. And whereas most people would be annoyed by the sound (it seems to happen most when you're trying to sleep), it was an inspiration to Bert for some nifty music to create with the can, etc.

That's the most logical conclusion I can come to.
