Was Roxie Marie created to ''replace" Sully?

As I have mentioned before, when Richard Hunt passed away in 1992 most of his charachters were discontinued from the show. Now we all know Biff's buddy Sully, who never talked right? Well he was always performed by Richard Hunt, despite the fact that he never spoke. I guess sometimes there's more to performing a charachter than just the voice. I also noticed that around 1992 they stopped using Sully, and sometimes had Biff in storylines by himself (for a little while) Then they brought in Biff's niece Roxie Marie, played by Fran Brill. And Sully did make a few comeback appearances years later, but for the most part never came back as a regular. I think Roxie Marie and Biff were both discontinued from the show after Season 30. But do you think they brought in Roxie Marie to replace Sully, and sort of retired the Sully charachter out of respect to Richard?

Back in the mid-1990s I watched the show quite a bit and didn't notice that Sully wasn't on much. I can't remember how often old skits with Sully were shown, but I also didn't know who performed Sully. I did notice a handful of times when Biff was used by himself (mainly the episode where Biff had a bowling ball stuck to his thumb). I also don't remember knowing about Roxie Marie until around 1998.

But Sully did appear a few times after Richard Hunt's death. There was an episode from season 25 where Biff and Sully appear in a few scenes at the park, to introduce the letters of the day, to explain "open" and "close", and to announce the sponsors at the end. I don't know who performed Sully in those scenes, nor do I know if Sully had a consistent performer after Richard Hunt's death.

Sully also made a cameo in Sesame Street's All-Star 25th Birthday: Stars and Street's Forever, and he made a cameo in a season 30 episode.
