I don't think the Kermit puppet was rejected by the foundation. I think it was rejected by the people at Palisades because it seemed too weird to them. After all, this isn't a figure of the man, it's a figure of the muppet, and the muppet didn't create the muppets. You have to separate the man from the puppet to get what I mean, but most people aren't separating the two.

The decision is equally attributed to both parties from what Ken has stated. Who knows who mentioned what first? In the end it doesn't really matter. I still think it would have been a fine choice of pack-in, but we've moved on. The slot will now be filled by a tambourine. Still think there's something better, but we'll see what happens. A lot can happen in a year.
