Hit Entertainment, GWR Group, and Susan Stranks are joining forces to create a brand new radio service for the under-10s and their parents and carers.

Children's Radio UK (CRUK) is a venture between HIT Entertainment plc, GWR Group and Susan Stranks. It is intended that HIT Entertainment and GWR Group will each hold 47.5% and Susan Stranks will hold 4%.

CRUK has been formed to run a new digital radio station launching in April on DAB digital multiplexes serving London, Essex, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Bristol, Avon and Dorset. It also submitted an application for the new Manchester FM licence and will be looking at other FM licence opportunities.

The service, which represents HIT Entertainment's first move into radio, will be a safe-haven for children that will provide entertainment, education and fun. It will be contemporary in sound and cater for the needs and interests of parents with children aged under 10, encouraging children to learn through the radio, in particular through music and song, as well as through reading and playtime.

Well-known characters from the HIT Entertainment stable such as Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina, Thomas & Friends, Barney, Fraggle Rock, The Wiggles, and more will be used in the radio programming to help entertain and build a relationship with the children. Music will comprise children-friendly popular and soft contemporary music, music from films and musicals, sing-a-long songs, nursery rhymes and classical, while speech will be centred around fun and discovery for children, as well as parent-oriented entertainment and information for grown-ups.
