right now i'm listening to the MC radio and hearing David singing a song called the subtraction blues. now i remember a song Olivia sang in the 80s wich they were probably inspired by this early song. question: was the subtraction blues ever sung on SS? i know a lot of songs were performed both on the show and the albums.

Yes, David walked along the street with a pizza and kept losing pieces as he carelessly held it by his side. This was in the mid seventies.

Actually, I have something very interesting to tell you about this song. Yes, it did have 2 different versions. One for SS, and one for The Count Counts LP. Now, on the album, some of the lyrics were different, because the visual gags that GeeBee described wouldn't work. So, like each time he subtracted one piece of pizza, there would be a reason for it, like "I swapped one for some chocolate milk." Okay, now, I have never seen the version from the show, but I HAVE listened to it. It's on the CD-Rom entitled "Sesame Street: Numbers." It's on one of the radio stations that you can listen to on the radios in the rooms.

oh boy i'm sure Mr. Hooper was mad as h--- at David.

LOL! I don't remember if he was supposed to be making a delivery for Mr. Hooper, but that is a very funny thought.

And yes, many songs had to be modified for records because of visual gags. Then again, even songs that could have remained the same were often altered from television to records such as "Ten Tiny Turtles on The Telephone."
