(The title appears in white letters on a black background, with Volume 9 appearing in pink letters)
(Big Bird walks around Sesame Street, looking around)
Big Bird: (looking inside the mailbox) Mr. Snuffleupagus? Are you in there? I guess not. (Big Bird opens the lid on Oscar's trash can and looks inside) Oscar, is Mr. Snuffleupagus in there?
Oscar: (off-camera) NO, YOUR IMAGINARY FRIEND IS NOT IN HERE! NOW GET LOST!
Big Bird: Oh, sorry.
(Willy walks by, pushing his cart)
Big Bird: Hi, Willy.
Willy: Oh, hi, Big Bird.
Big Bird: Is Mr. Snuffleupagus hiding in your hot dog stand?
Willy: Mr. Snuffleupagus?
Big Bird: Yes.
Willy: The same Mr. Snuffleupagus who is your imaginary friend?
Big Bird: No, no, no, he is not imaginary.
Willy: Well, he's certainly not in here. Why are you looking for him, anyway?
Big Bird: Well, we are playing a game of hide and seek.
Willy: Well, wherever he is, he's not in here. All I've got is nine hot dogs.
Big Bird: Oh.
(cut to the following sketches: Song of Nine, Jazz #9, Martian Beauty, Count Up to Nine, Pinball Number Count #9, The Old Lady Who Lived in a Nine, and Grover giving Fat Blue the number 9 special)
(Gordon and Bob are sitting at the courtyard)
Gordon: Can you believe it?
Bob: No, I can't. Piano prices have dropped 9 cents.
Gordon: I didn't know that, but I was referring to Big Bird playing hide and seek with his imaginary friend.
Bob: Oh, that. One of these days Big Bird will realise that Mr. Snuffleupagus is not real.
(Snuffy puts his head up from behind the fench, as the camera zooms closer)
Mr. Snuffleupagus: (talking quietly) Oh, all these years and they still don't believe in me. I could show myself to them right now, but then I would lose the game.
(cut to the following skits: Harvey Kneeslapper telsl the mailman that he has a letter for his mother, Ernie and Bert's R collection, and Typewriter Guy: R)
(Mr. Snuffleupagus is still behind the fench, this time showing a side view of behind the fench)
Mr. Snuffleupagus: I wonder what I can do to keep myself busy while waiting for Bird to find me. I know, I can take a rest! Rest begins with the letter R. Another word for rest is sleep, which begins with S, and Snuffleupagus also begins with the letter S. Well, I'm off to sleep now.
(cut to: the S claymation from the first episode, and Sherlock Hemlock demonstrating the S sound)
(Big Bird is in the arbor area, looking for Mr. Snuffleupagus)
Big Bird: Snuffy! Where are you? (looks under the stairs) Are you there?
(Susan shows up behind Big Bird. When Big Bird sees her, he is startled)
Big Bird: Aaahh!
Susan: Big Bird, are you still looking for your imaginary friend?
Big Bird: He is not imaginary!
Susan: Whatever. I just find it ridiculous that you are searching for something that you will not find. (walks away)
Big Bird: Oh, I'll find him! You'll see! (goes to the fench, looks down, and finds Mr. Snuffleupagus) Snuffy! I found you!
Mr. Snuffleupagus: You found me!
Big Bird: Now it's my turn to hide, and you can seek me!
Mr. Snuffleupagus: Okay.
(Big Bird leaves)
Mr. Snuffleupagus: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Ready or not, here I come! (Mr. Snuffleupagus walks over the fench, breaking it) Ooops!
(cut to the following skits: A Little Bit at the Beginning, cavemen Grover and Biff invent the wheel, Cookie Monster shrinking himself after deciding that the smallest person should get a cookie, Kermit and Grover's "yes" demonstration, and Bert imagining that he is an ice skater)
(Big Bird is hiding inside a tree. His face can be seen through a tree hole)
Big Bird: Hi, there. I am hiding inside this tree. I wonder if Snuffy will find me. Well, we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
(LIttle Bird flies by and lands on a branch)
Little Bird; Hello, Big Bird.
Big Bird: Oh, hi, Little Bird.
Little Bird: What are you doing in this tree?
Big Bird: I am playing hide and seek. Mr. Snuffleupagus is going to find me.
Little Bird: Well, then I guess you'll never come out then.
Big Bird: Yes, I will.
Little Bird: No, you wil not. Mr. Snuffleupagus is not real.
Big Bird: Yes, he is.
Little Bird: Well, I've had enough nonsense for now. (Little Bird flies away)
Big Bird: Hmm, Little Bird doesn't beleive that Snuffy is real. Maybe he isn't.
(Mr. Snuffleupagus shows up)
Mr. Snuffleupagus: I am too real, Bird, and I've found you!
Big Bird: Oh, you found me faster than I found you.
Mr. Snuffleupagus: Yeah! Well, I've got to go home now. See you later.
Big Bird: Okay. (trying to get out) Oh, no, I'm stuck. How did I get in this mess, anyway?
(cut to the following skits: several rabbits help each other pull a carrot out from the ground, Ernie reads a book to figure out who on Sesame Street is sick, and There's a Bird on Me)
(the adults observe the broken fench)
Gordon: How did this fench break?
Susan: I don't know.
Maria: We may never find out.
(Biff and Sully arrive)
Biff: Okay, Sully and I will fix this fench.
Willy: Are you sure that you know what you are doing?
Biff: Positive.
(Sully nods his head)
Gordon: Okay, then, fix it.
Biff: Alright!
(cut to the adults watching as fixing sound effects are heard)
(cut to Biff and Sully behind the fench, now fixed)
Biff: Well, we fixed it!
Maria: Wow!
Willy: You sure did fix it.
Gordon: Unbelievable.
Biff: Well, Sully and I have got to fix other things now. (they leave)
Gordon: I can't believe it... (Gordon touches the fench, and it instantly breaks again)
Maria: Well, it looks like we need to get the proffessionals.
Oscar: (walking by) Wow! A broken fench! What'll they think of next!
(cut to the following skits: Beat the Time with Grover, Oscar helsp Ernie find his lost Rubber Duckie part 1, I Can't Help It, Fur, and Oscar helps Ernie find his lost Rubber Duckie part 2)
(Big Bird and Snuffy come to the arbor area, where the fench is fixed again)
Big Bird: Well, it looks like somebody fixed the fench.
Mr. Snuffleupagus: Yup! I could have fixed it myself, and probably should have, since I broke it....
Big Bird: But it's nice that it's fixed, though. (to audience) Sesame Street was brought to you today by the letters R and S, and by the number 9.
