Hey all,

One of the various shows I'm working on right now is called The Rant Puppets. I've been doing it off and on for a while, having one of my puppets (typically Brian) ranting semi-hilariously and hopefully somewhat articulately about a specific topic. I'm ramping it up, and am planning on doing at least one episode per day for three weeks.

Why so many in such a short time? Because quite honestly I want to see if a focused effort can build up enough audience really quickly to attract the attention of sponsors. Beyond that, though, I'm looking at it as a test, both of my puppetry (it'll be some good, constant practice for me), and also of my writing skills; I'm hoping to find something in the news everyday to talk about, and to be able to whip up a 3-6 minute rant about it, one that's coherent, funny, and actually has something to say.

It may indeed prove to be quite a challenge for me.

If you're interested in seeing what I'm doing with it, you can go to http://www.rantpuppets.com/

Thanks!
Brian

Just a helpful(?) word of advice:

In today's fast-paced world, if you want to get a wide audience fast I'd suggest keeping the episodes to less than three minutes max. If people aren't immediately gripped in the first five seconds, they'll stop watching. Six minutes is a lot to ask of someone with that attention span, and a lot of pressure on yourself as a writer.

I know you enjoy making things harder for yourself (so do I — I'm an artist too ). Just remember that it's better to leave an audience wanting more than wanting to flip the channel.

Good luck on your quest!

I think every day will hurt it. Once or twice a week is enough to keep them coming back without letting them lose interest.
yeah actually twice a week would be good. Like mondays and thursdays or something.

My thought is to go back to once a week or slightly more after the initial glut; aside from me wanting to force myself to do puppetry daily again, I also want to get a bunch of episodes, a back catalogue, really quickly.

Also, I'm thinking/hoping that because they're on a wide variety of topics, it'll be able to spread in some ways without the daily overload. If you like it because of my tech rants, they won't be daily, and you can just ignore the other stuff. Similarly, if you like the cultural/religious/etc, you need only tune in a bit. That might not work, but that's one of the hopes.

As for the length of the episodes, it is what it is. I'm going to try to keep it in the 3 minute length, which todays and tomorrows will be, but if it goes long due to content, it goes long. I'm cool with that.

After all, if people are dropping the content after 5 seconds, it doesn't seem to matter as much if there's another 3 minutes, or 6.
