I suspect he was molded in foam latex, but I would have to see a video to be sure. Anyone else?

According to "Jim Henson, the Works":

Performed by Frank Oz, Favog was conceived as a "stone" likeness of the local deity (actually sculpted from latex foam), vaguely pre-Columbian in appearance.
I don't think they started casting the puppet heads in foam latex until after "The Muppet Show" started. I believe the originals of Piggy, Statler and Waldorf were sculpted.

hes sculpted form a huge pice of SOFT FOAM, much like what piggy and the other muppet show pigs were .its denser, stretchier, and last longer than other types of foam, its very soft , easy to carve, dont no were to ordeer it (i have a feeling it is a custom order,)

but it is really nice stuff, it can be dyed, and painted with flock glue(go to puppet design , patricks website, ) he carved a little alien puppet out of the same stuff recently
