In 1976,during my childhood days of watching Sesame Street,I recall an evening TV special involving all of the main Sesame Street characters[Kermit The Frog included].I think the Sesame Street set was included as well.Except that it appeared to have been a live TV performance,or at least a laugh track was included. This show seemed to have the mood of a comedy-sketch-variety show.Quite different from the regular Sesame Street show, but not unlike The Muppet Show. Now this program had aired shortly before The Muppet Show debuted that fall.I remember watching The Muppet Show for the very first time with my mom.The only familiar character on the show at the time, was Kermit The Frog.I recall asking my mom where all the other Sesame Street characters were. She told me that they had to stay on Sesame Street. It took me some getting used to,seeing Kermit with all these unknown muppet characters.Though don,t get me wrong,I love The Muppet Show to this day.I,m just curious to know whatever happened to that Sesame Street special I,ve just mentioned. It seems to have been forgotten.

I think I,ve just learned excatcly what the show I,ve referred to really was.I believe the special I,m thinking of,is the 1973 tv special 'Julie on Sesame Street',a Sesame Street special where Julie Andrews guest starred. In case you,re wondering how I found this out,I was browsing through the site that features The Muppet Show,s first two seasons in full detail, and read a bit about the episode that guest starred Julie Andrews. So I think it,s safe to say,the mystery is solved.

Pug Lover,

It does sound like your referring to Julie On Sesame Street !

The show was made to test the UK Audience, And see how the like The Sesame Street Muppets and what their reaction would be towards a whole show based on Puppets. They also totaly rebuilt the entire set (with extras) in Elstree Studios, England !
When they built it here, They added the opposite side of the street to 123 and they also made a bridge carry on from where Bird's nest is, Instead of a corner the bridge carried on the street.

The show starts with Julie in a pure white studio siging the Sesame Street Theme, Then Oscar yells "Follow Me!". So she does.

She runs around after Oscar (Trashcan with legs) and then all of these Trashcan with legs appear, All with different color legs. At the end of the musical number there are around 40 of them!

Then the show goes from there, Julie meets Ernie, Bert, Cookie, Biff, Big Bird and Snuffy. Grover makes an appearance, so does Betty Lou.

They do a big tribute to Broadway, And Perry Como even visits. Him and Julie sing a great medley about "songs with sing in them, or songs with song in them... You'll get the hang of it".

This, in my opinion is the greatest Sesame Street Special.

Pug Lover,

You'd have to find someone who has it on video to trade with.

It is the greatest non holiday SS special, but Christmas Eve on Sesame beats it out. The Broadway tribute might possibly be the best thing they did that year, or anytime after that.
