Everyone who knows Jim Henson, knows him best as a puppeteer, but what many don't know, is that his real dream was to make movies. He made The Great Muppet Caper, but he also made The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, which are two fantasy films. Now, does anyone else here, besides me think that Jim had the talent to make movies outside of The Muppets and Creature Shop fantasy films? I think like, Frank Oz, he could done a good job branching out in other genres, such as comedy and drama. your thoughts?

He did make Timepiece in the early 60's, if that helps

I definitely think he had the talent ... I just think his techno-geekiness (this is not an insult, since I'm one ) would prevent him from just doing something that didn't require some cool new film tech. Based on that vid on youtube, he may have been thinking about the reality-show/documentary/whatever approach. Based on what happens on the vid after his intro, it seems pretty clear to me (and I guess this is one of those hindsight criticisms, since we're awash with that kind of stuff now) that he was more fascinated in the idea of personal videomaking than in the story itself.

Yeah, and I'm not sure what you mean, but with personal video making the story does unfold. I think it's was one aspect of film making he was interested in doing. But I do think that he could have make other kinds of film as well. I think they could have been reality based in fantasy or one or the other individually or not creature based. I definitely think he could have made films with just humans in them.

I always have like his fantasy films with just people. something like somebody's dream although I could see that possibly having some sort of creatures in it. I would love to see something like Time piece made into a movie length film.

All I meant was it seemed like your average "hey, let's get some vids of us driving or going to the store!" Like I said, it may just be hindsight criticism, since we see it all the time now.
