I've heard a lot about "Spinning Wheel" being a cover song on Sesame Street. I know the lyrics, but what actually happened in the song?

All I can remember was the muppet in question, who sang the song (the original by Blood Sweat and Tears) with the background shadow of a large wheel spinning. I think he had some kind of musical instrument that he played as well. This would have to be early 70's.
