I'm not sure if this is a rumor or not, but I have been told that back in the early 80's (when Brian Meehl was performing Telly) there was a sketch with both Kermit and Telly together as Newsreporters, I know Telly was Monster on the Spot, a lot during the 80's but that routine was slowly phased out, most likely because Kermit was already the Newsreporter. Also Telly had enough going on at the time with Sneak Peek Previews, and Ask Oscar. But it is very interesting that the 2 of them did appear together with their reporter clothes on. Can someone tell me exactly what it is they did in this skit? It would be greatly appreciated, because this is something Iv'e been wondering about for a very long time now.

I remember that one. It was basically that  wanted to do his Sesame Street news segment, but Telly wanted to do a Monster on the Spot segment. At the end, they agreed to cooperate and ask each other questions. I don't remember much else the Brain Meehl Telly segments kind of escape me, so I couldn't tell you exactly, but I do know what you're talking about. By the way, the Telly 's Monster and the Spot role has come back in recent eps such as in "As the Poorige Cooled."

I think Telly has been the monster on the spot quite a bit during the 1990s. I think he was monster on the spot in a scene from Big Bird's Birthday, i recall seeing a promo for PBS a long time ago where Telly interviewed a kid (i think Telly was in his reporter attire), and Telly was a reporter in a season 30 episode where Big Bird plays the worlds longest game of hide and seek with either Elmo or Zoe.

Yeah, I remember quite a bit on Monster On the Spot. My earliest memory, however, was the time he and The Count were doing a PBS pledge spot, and The Count was counting ways he likes PBS, and finally he took over Telly's microphone to continue his count for his love for PBS.

It is a bit interesting that telly's role as Monster on the Spot didn't occur much because of Kermit being another main reporter, because I've read about a Sesame Street news segment that didn't feature Kermit. For soem reason, this sketch featured Warren Wolf, and he interviewed Dr. Nobel Price, who apparantly invented a machine that could lower voices, which turned out to be a microphone. Telly could have probably been the reporter in that sketch. Then again, I'm not sure if that skit was made before or after Brian Meehl left.

Well, at the time Brian was performing both Telly and Dr. Price, so it would have been hard to have them in a scene together. Why they didn't use  is beyond me.

Now it seems like they're doing the opposite of what they did before. Telly's MOTS role is probably more common now, since they can't use Kermit in new material. Just a thought.

It's true; I've got it from Plaza Sesamo (but the puppetry and Telly's design would suggest that Marty Robinson's performing him).

Yeah. I was thinking it came out sometime in the late 80s. I'm not exactly sure when "Monster on the Spot" originated so I don't know if Brian did any of those or not.
