Can anyone mention any subtle changes that has happened to the SS set over the years?

1969: The set was not curved, it was just one straight street.
1970's: Set becomes curved with an arbor in the middle. The empty shop next to Hooper's Store becomes Fix-It-Shop. Late 70's, the fence in the arbor no longer had a hole in it. Big Bird now has 4 front doors instead of 5.
1980's: The palm tree painting on the fence in the arbor was faded, as well as the numbers on the two double door. Late 80's, the palm trees behind the fence are gone an you could then see another building in the far distance. Big Bird's nest area has a little less of the ABC 123 wallpaper.
1990's: The set becomes more "sunnier". The set gets a new paint job that makes it look more bright and friendly. Gordon and Susan's livingroom curtains change from white with flowers, to a colorful African American style. The brownish red tower that had ABDE on it (I never did know what it was) in the arbor was changed to gray and bcame shorter. The building in the arbor no longer had numbers on it under the stairs. The around the bend behind Big Bird's nest is added which includes: Gina's Family Daycare, The Furry Arms Hotel, Finders Keepers, and the park. Late 90's, Around the Bend set is no more. The fence in the arbor is shorter and is painted (some planks red, some blue, some no paint.) The double door no longer have the "NO PARKING" sign on it, and that building becomes Dr. Gina's Office. Hooper's Store is now blue with no checkered bottom, and the awning is red. Hooper's STore now has a side window that overlooks the arbor. Between Gina's Office and 123, is now a community garden. Behind the fence in the arbor is now a new building in which Elmo lives in.
2000's: 2002 The set gets a major make over. Big Bird's doors now have shaped cut outs in them, he now has 3 front doors instead of 4. The doors and window frames on 123 are now red. Susan and Gordon's living room curtains are now blue. The wall of the dumpster on 123 is a little taller. The Dr. Gina's Offices double doors now has a jungle mural on it. The stairs are now red and look more childish. A big tree is next to the office. The little fence is now replaced by a little brickwall. Hooper's Store is now orange, but still has a red awning. The Fix-It-Shop is now the Mail-It-Shop.

That'a about what I can recall.

WELL DONE. You could be a set designer or stage manager for the show, you know so much!

How about Oscar's trash can area? Notice any differences over the past 34 years?

How about the mailbox or the lamppost?

i rented a tape last night called "big birds, get up and dance!" i think it was made around the late nineties...?
anyways, it was radars birthday and big bird and some kids wanted to have a dance party for him. this took place at 'selinas dance studio', above a magazine stand that oscar was working in..??? is this set featured in the new episodes of ss, or was it maybe just a one off for this small production..?

I seem to remember a magazine stand that Oscar worked in. It was near a subway entrance. I don't think it was used much.

Too bad they got rid of the around the corner sets. I thought it was good to have the street expand like that. Does anyone know the reasoning behind changing the Fix-it-Shop to the Mail-it-Shop? What was the point? Was it even explained?

Because there are barely anymore toaster repair shops in NYC? I hate the Mail-It-Shop, do we have to see it in EVERY single episode of SS from season 33 on?

Oh, I could I have forgoten that! By the 1980's, Oscar's trashcan area got alittle bit bigger, more crates and burlap. And too, his can started to get chipped. 1969, I saw in a picture it was red and blue and said "Speed up your Mail". Then, they made it solid blue. The lamppost doesn't seem like it's changed, however, the S.S. sign has changed. During the years 1998-2000, the sign became a little skinier, and the CTW part wasn't curved. Then in 2001, the CTW on the sign has been changed to 123, since CTW changed their name to Sesame Workshop.'

Thanks for the compliment, and just think, I'm onlky 14 and already know this much!

Wow. 14, huh?

That means you were either born 1988 or 1989, the year Maria and Luis got married and had Gaby.....SESAME STREET's 20th year.

MAN! I can remember watching SESAME back in 1975.

It's too bad, you should have seen SESAME back when they had bellbottoms and beehive hairdos and psychedelic cartoons.

Back when the show was actually good and entertaining for adults.

I once saw Richard Hunt in Bellbottoms in a picture where he was introducing a vistor to the set to see Herry Monster. 1989 is when I was born, the year Sesame turned 20. The only time I SAW Sesame in the 70's in the video Christmas Eve on Sesame Street a friend gave me as a Christmas present.

You gotta see SESAME STREET back how it looked in the EARLY EARLY years.

We're talking 1969-1971.

It'll flip you out.
