I understand the subject f this thread is confusing, so allow me to explain:
Awhile back, Docnzhoss alerted us about a survey hosted by AOL to vote for your favorite American, and encouraged us to vote for Jim. (you can read about that thread here). This survey was to become a special that will air on the Discovery Channel.

So tonight I'm at the grocery store and I see LIFE magazine featuring itself as a special issue toward this special. Now unfortunately Jim did not make the magazine's list (which I'm assuming is the same list as the Discovery Channel's show), but Steve Jobs did, but here's the interesting part; Steve's photo in the magazine shows him leaning on a computer monitor with the picture of several illustrated Sesame characters on it. The photo credit gives no mention to Sesame Street and the bio only really discusses Steve's accomplishment's with PIXAR. So this was an eyebrow raiser for yours truly, so any thoughts to this mystery?

It's interesting that Jim didn't even make the list. Maybe the photo is hinting that technology has made puppets obsolete, or perhaps there's a top secret animated Sesame Street movie coming out from PIXAR.

I recognize Steve Jobs' accomplishments in computers and animation, but if he's one of the great Americans, Jim Henson definitely should be. What has Jobs done to consciously attempt to end war the way Henson tried with Fraggle Rock? The only reason Jobs is on that list is because he's a contemporary pioneer and flippin' rich to boot. If Jim were alive, he wouldn't have been snuffed in this way.

I was intending to watch that special, because I thought Jim might certainly be on it. I mean, Kermit's gotten a star on the walk of fame, and so has Jim himself. He has done so much to help with peace, and the general...wellness...of the world. I know I won't watch that thing now. :sympathy:

If it's any consellation, there was this part in the last hour of the special where Matt Lauer talked about people who did not make the list, and Jim Henson was mentioned and they quickly panned a photo of Jim with the Fraggles.

So at least they recognized.

An honorable mention does make me feel a little better about the whole thing too.
