Hi
One thing I've noticed about Sesame Street that probably helps explain why it's been around for so long is that it's almost as entertaining for adults as it is for kids. In fact there are some skits where beyond the basic scene, a kid probably wouldn't get the joke of it. Here's one of my faves:
I saw this just a few years back but I'm not sure when it originally debuted. Anyhow, it features our good friend Cookie Monster. He decides he's going to write a letter to his favorite cookie, and proceeds to sing a song that's a parody of "You Made Me Love You". This is a parody of a scene from the 1930s MGM musical "Broadway Melody" in which a young Judy Garland sings "You Made Me Love You" to a picture of Clark Gable as she's writing him a fan letter. Now call me crazy, but I seriously doubt that any kid is going to make that connection. It seems like alot of the muppet parodies (H. Ross Parrot, Dr. Feel etc.) and alot of the songs are created to keep adults entertained as well. What are your favorite examples?
