So, how does this really work?

So, how does this fan fiction thing really work on here? Is it mandatory that everyones stories intermingle. Must your version of events work out with someone elses?

I'm so lost. I'm writing a story and posting it on a new blog, but I know that for various reasons not everyone here can access blogs. I want to share but I DO NOT want to change how TogetherAgain's story works out.

But she has said that she doesn't want people to reference her work (not a problem for me) but I worry that she would (or anyone else) would want to change a storyline because of what I'm writing. Even though the current story I'm working on takes place far in future, I wouldn't want things to have to change regardless of the time period I choose to have the story.

This is such a dilema for me.

Any advice?

First of all let me say that I've read what you have so far, and I think it is brilliant! Love the Lowis Lowery eliments! Might want to proof-read and edit it one more time before you post it here though, but of cou it's up to you.
I don't see any reason why it can't be posted here, but then again, there is only a chapter and prologue so far. As you can see, there are many different types of stories here, from many different points of view. A couple of them even clearly state that they are conflicting with other stories, so there is nothing to worry about there.
I believe Lisa only meant that she didn't want her characters of Melinda and Ray refferenced in stories. Then again, I had forgotten that her stories will be going into the future as well. I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem, but if you feel more comfortable, you can continue posting in the blog until Lisa gets back from her trip. You can talk to her then if you like.
Then again, (again), Sarah wrote a futuristic story...but that was a while before Lisa began writing Flippersteps.
Sorry I wasn't much help; maybe someone else can give you better advice. Heheh, maybe there's a reason Wembly's my roommate in the dorms, eh?
*wink*

Happy writing,
Kate

Thanks. I'll see what a few more people have to say about the questions in general and then let you know what I decide to do.

Kate, I typed today's chapter after writing it during my 12 hour work shift (I work in a neonatal intensive care unit) so I'm sure there maybe some major typos or a continuity problem, etc in it. Anything that glared out at you that I can fix?

Actually java... Kate's advice was pretty much right on.

Lisa's warning was only concerning the characters of Melinda and Ray Frogs, she doesn't want others referencing them in fanfiction... At least, not until she finishes the first of her Flipperstep stories and gets into the second one. That's why she posted the warning.
You can have a story with differing points of view on events that've happened already, that's part of what makes a fanfiction interesting. Take for example, Erin (MuppetNewsGirl)'s A Little Knight Music and how the events there differ from what Sara (ReneeLouvier) created in her Sadie's Stories series.
Additionally, you can take your story into the future... Would recommend you read through Sara's A Grand Adventure in Life (Sadie's Stories Book 7) to gain some perspective on this. Course, it'd do you well to read them all in order... Up to you.
And it's not mandatory that your story reference back to others' stories... We just like to do that to acknowledge our peers in the Muppet FanFiction community here on the forums. Plus, it makes you smile when you make others gush because a part of their work was brought into your own. The little details like that are what helps win over readers.

Hope this helps and have a good night.

Java...write what you want, Lisa is a close friend of mine and I'm positive she won't mind that you story has a different time line...just don't use her characters...the point is it's a FanFic, it's a fictional story written by fans about what they think about the subject...you story is independent of all others and that is what matters and that is the way it should be...of course many authors here reference other people's work, but they don't let it infuence their own stories....hope this helps

Edit: Gah...Count ziffeled me

Yeah I agree. Write what you like. I mean who's right and who's wrong here? Sorry if that came out wrong. I'm not gifted in the wording depatement. lol As for useing someoem elses ' made up muppets ' I would say that would be up to the creator to say if they want them used in another story or not. Me personally I don't care if people want to use my ideas or what not seeing that I don't own the Muppets so why not. I haven't written a muppet fic in quite some time. I would say sure post it here I would like to see it.

Actually, rereading it, you did an excelent job! I'm just a bit of a perfectionist, lol! I only found one misspelling in chapter 1, but the thing that caught my attention last night was in the prologue. In the beginning, you said "many one" when I believe you meant one of the many. Nothing to worry about though, believe me! Are you planning to put more up on the blog?

Happy writing,
Kate

Here's a general rule of thumb. If you're going to reference someone else's work and you're unsure how they'd feel...then ask! Also, don't worry if your story doesn't line up with someone elses. That's half to fun of reading them! Finding out what others think. So please post your story (and it'll go on my huge things I must read list )

Thank you all. I would have gone straight to Lisa if she weren't on her trip of a lifetime and asked. I'm have not been planning (and it continues that way) to reference Melinda and Ray but the way she stated it made me feel that she might take other fan fics into account even without the reference.

I'm not going to be able to post more on my blog tonight because I'm leaving to go out of town in little bit and still have to finish the next chapter.

It is for that reason that I will leave what I have on my blog and wait until I get back to post the story here.

Thank you all for the quick responses and the feedback.

Talk to you after the weekend!
