I wonder what was behind having music being played each time Snuffy came by and left?

You didn't see that with other muppets.

Good question! Maybe because it took so long to get him into a scene (due to the way he's built and because they wanted to show off the whole puppet). You have to fill the space with something to set the mood.

Also, the music seemed to end pretty much after Snuffy became "visible" to the adults on Sesame Street. (I'm not sure if it went away completely, but it seems to have "faded out" at about that time.)
