Set in the old west, these were cool muppet skits that involved Sinister Sam an alleged "outlaw" that everyone was alwyas so scared of but turned out to be nothing severe at all. One skit involved Sam coming into the bar and saying "I'm looking for Doc Holliday"(from the OK Corral?) Doc sees him and ducks from site. The reason he wants to see him is cause Sam has "an itchy trigger finger". Thru process of elimination, Sam finally finds Doc and when Doc asks him what he wants, Sam cleverly says, "I want you to stop it from itching"!
Another Sinister Sam skit involved Sam coming into the same bar and telling the folks "I'm looking for the biggest man in the place". Similar to the Doc Holliday skit, the biggest man ducks from site too. His name I think was Big Barney but I forgot what Sam actually wanted him for once they finally met.
The other one I remember I think was Sinister Sam or a muppet that looked like him and telling the folks at the bar of a "surprise" he had for the female marshall of the town but warning the folks not to say anything to her about it.Finally, Sam and the marshall come face to face and all the other folks are scared over what's going to happen. The surprise turns out to be a birthday cake Sam bought for her!

I think he had a hat for him, but I could be mistaken.

Sinister Sam, Wanted Dead or Alive

Ahh, yes! Sinister Sam was the meanest, nastiest hombre West of the Pecos!
And you're right, in both early skits mentioned there was a big buildup in suspense when Sam met up with either Doc Holliday or "the biggest man in the place". The final showdown between Doc Holliday and Sam was a classic.

"Lookie here , Doc. I got this finger that won't stop itchin'! You think that's a mosquito bite? Ya got some Calamine lotion, Doc?"
And all poor Doc can do is faint. Sam shrugs it off and joins the cowpokes at the bar with a round of milk for everybody (with a Bosco chaser!)

I think the last one they ever produced (late 70's/early 80's) had Sam looking for the varmint who bought the last box of crayons from the General Store- because he wanted to learn how to draw the letter Y.

It's funny how Jim, who was so quiet and gentle and loving in real life, really threw himself into this role of being a mean, nasty outlaw who strikes fear in people's hearts. Something good ol' Jim would never do, would he?

It wasn't the last one ... in 1988 there was a skit called "High 12" in which Forgetful Jones had to meet Sam at the train station, and thus postpone his wedding to Clementine.

But, was Sinister Sam really mean, nasty or even an outlaw? It seemed like he never really meant anyone harm even though they were all afraid of him.

I liked when Forgetful and Sam went into the bar, they found some cows and horses in there. Sam goes, "What's this cow doing in here?" and he pushes a cow and then a horse out the swinging doors. I can imagine Jim having fun doing this funny skit.

Well, there's the skit where Sam was warning the cowboys in the saloon not to tell (Clementine? Calamity Jane? her name escapes me) that he has something for her.

One of the cowpokes was about to tell her about Sam's surprise, but Sam put a stop to that. "If you tell her, it won't be a surprise!" Then Sam proceeds to nearly strangle him to death. "SO DON'T SAY A WORD!!!"

Although the skit does show that he did go to all the trouble of getting her a birthday cake. (She even gives him a peck on the cheek.) So I guess underneath that gruff exterior there really is a heart of gold. But you really have to dig for it.

You're thinking of another character, Bad Bart - who basically has the same voice as Sinister Sam. And it was Marshall Earp whom he was trying to surprise in that skit.
