On April Fools Day, as an April Fools joke, I posted a thread about an e-mail I got from Sesame Workshop concerning a DVD release of classic Sesame Street material.

Of course, that info was not real, but I thought I'd continue the joke here, with a series of "official" press releases.

Warning: This is not for those who get disapointed easily. It is for fictional purposes only.

Coming this summer to DVD: The Sesame Street Treasures Collection! A collection of DVD releases featuring classic Sesame Street material. Many classic sketches will be comming to DVD, along with many spectacular bonus features.

Currently, Sesame Workshop plans on releasing two at a time, and Sesame Workshops first two releases will be "The Ultimate Ernie and Bert Collection Vol. 1" and "The Sesame Street Film Festival Vol. 1".

The Ultimate Ernie and Bert Collection Vol. 1 will feature every individual Ernie and Bert sketch from 1969-1974. Features will include a photo gallery, a documentary on Ernie and Bert, "The Best of Ernie and Bert", outtakes, and four episodes of Sesame Street from the early years. Also included will be a booklet featuring a written introduction by Frank Oz and info on each skit, including taping dates, air date, the episode numbers for episodes those skits were originally part of, actual titles, and listing of writers, directors, and producers invoved.

The Sesame Street Film Festival Vol. 1 will mostly focus on non-muppet sketches. There will be ten Muppet skits, though, but otherwise, this DVD will include over 150 animation and film segments produced for Sesame Street, many of which have introductions by the animators and film makers who were originally involved. All segments included here will be segments made between 1969 and 1975. Segments will include all of the baker films, all of the Buddy and Jim films, the number painter films, and all of Bud Lucky's contributions (The Alligator King, That's About the Size of It, etc) Features will include four episodes of Sesame Street, "the Grover Monster/ Jean Marsh Cartoon Special", a photo gallery, and pencil tests. In addition, there will be a booklet with an introduction by Budd Luckey, and info on eac segment included.

These will be released by Sony Wonder, and will retail at $48.99.

The first four releases in the Sesame Street Treasures Collection were so successful that Sesame Workshop is now planning on releasing four at a time!

The next four volumes, planned for winter, are: The Ultimate Grover Collection Vol. 1, The Jim Henson Collection, The Great Music Collection Vol. 1, and Slimey Goes to the Moon.

The Ultimate Grover Collection will include every Grover sketch from 1969-1976, and bonus features will include a Grover through the years-type documentary, a photo gallery, and four episodes of the show that starred Grover. Frank Oz will also write an introduction in this DVDs booklet.

The Jim Henson Collection will include 12 Ernie segments, 16 Kermit segments, 18 Guy Smiley segments, 12 segments with other Sesame Street characters performed by Jim Henson, and 12 non-muppet segments that Jim Henson worked on for Sesame Street. Many of the skits will have special introductions, by people such as Frank Oz, Jane Henson, Joan Ganz Coony, Caroll Spinney, Jerry Nelson, Christopher Cerf, and Brian Henson. Features will include "The Best of Kermit on Sesame Street", the original sales piece featuring Kermit the Frog and Rowlf, and a photo gallery. This DVDs booklet will also include an introduction by Jane Henson.

The Great Music Collection Vol. 1 will include many different kinds of Sesame Street songs, broken up into sections, including "Rock & Roll", "Classical", "Country", "Jazz", "Rap", "Cover Songs", and "Other Types of Music". Christopher Cerf will write an introduction on the booklet, and the DVD will also include "Sing: The Songs of Joe Raposo", and a photo gallery.

Slimey Goes to The Moon will feature street scenes from every season 29 episode that focused on Slimey's moon trip. In addition to this, the DVD will include every Worms in Space segment, and ten other space-themed segments, including four skits with the martians. There will also be a special feature on the making and development of these episodes. No word yet on who will write the introduction in the booklet, but Sesame Workshop is hoping to get a real-life astronaut or space researcher to write it.
