'Sesame' faves celebrate soccer

NEW YORK and LIMA, Peru — "Plaza Sésamo" fans throughout Latin America will be cheering "Goal!" when Elmo, Cookie and Ernie from the beloved children’s series, make appearances this month at Futbolandia, the first soccer theme park in South America and an official event of Copa America Peru 2004.
As a special guest of UNICEF, one of Copa America’s partners, Plaza Sésamo walk around characters will meet and greet fans on weekends throughout July. Children will receive Plaza Sésamo activity sheets, and families will be encouraged to play sports, be active, and develop a positive attitude about their bodies. In addition, a music video featuring the characters exercising and having fun will play on video screens throughout the park.
The Futbolandia appearances "kick" off a three-month Plaza Sésamo campaign where the characters will visit hospitals, schools and retail outlets, and walk parades throughout Latin America to meet with fans. The activities will culminate in September with the introduction of a new Fisher-Price plush called Enrique Futbolista, which will be introduced in various Latin American countries. Enrique Futbolista will be dressed in soccer gear.
