1 Steve Whitmire is indeed the official Muppeteer for Ernie on Sesame Street, and Sesame Street related projects.
2 Unfortunately, Steve was indeed not available to perform Ernie for the batch of episodes of Play With Me Sesame Season 2.
3 John Tartaggliano was a Muppeteer from a past performance, and stepped in to perform Ernie, but just for the Season 2 episodes of PWMS.

Thanks for the info. I just wonder where Steve was during the second season of PWMS. Maybe he was working with Kermit on another Muppet project or something like that.
