That monster is known to us fans as "Beautiful Day Monster," since his first Ed Sullivan appearance.

Oh, and prickle747, thank you so much for those CDRs. They came in the mail today. And I hope you enjoy your tape ...

The broken ukulele skit is actually with Beautiful Day. In the skit he has Cookie Monster's voice. I've seen the skit, so i know. This might have been before monsters had specific names, like Beautiful Day being called Splurge one time.

Cookie Monster and Beautiful Day Monster were on the scene at the same time. In fact, there are some sketches where the two are even in the same shot.

Both of them, however, originated before Sesame Street. Beautiful Day appeared in an Ed Sullivan sketch in which he does what he can do ruin a beautful day. And the as of yet undiscovered Cookie Monster, with teeth, ate an automatic machine. (Both skits were reproduced for the Muppet Show, with different monsters.)
