Hey all!

I've been reading up on Sam the Robot over at the Sesame Street Encyclopedia and I was wondering a couple of things:

Was his premiere in 1972 and if so, when did he stop being featured?

Who made him and why did he come to Sesame Street?

I read somewhere that Caroll Spinney preformed Sam, was it him or Jerry Nelson?

Exactly how slow and bad was he at his job?

Who's voice was his similar too?

I appreciate anyone who can help answer these questions! Thanks again!

Sam the Robot was supposed to satisfy and meet all the needs of the residents of Sesame Street, but instead, he did everything wrong. He was performed by Jerry Nelson inside the puppet.

I'll answer these the best I can:

1) Already answered, from 1972 (episode #406) to 1976.

2) I don't think a particular character made him, but maybe Don Sahlin, Kermit Love, and Caroly Wilcox were in charge. In his first appearance, he says he's come to Mulberry Street (which he's confused with Sesame Street) to have dinner with a cement mixer (named Shirley!).

3) Jerry Nelson performed him.

4) Pretty much like #2 all the time.

5) He sounds sort of like a calmed down Fat Blue with good diction, and with a synthesized voice. (Though in one episode, #536, it's not synthesized, so maybe they decided to get rid of it, or it was a technical glitch.)
