Sam the Eagle's name

After being in the park seeing this guy who had this Uncle Sam like beard driving this rusy car, somewhere in my thoughts I was wondering, was Sam the Eagle named after Uncle Sam? Since he is an American Eagle or The American Eagle. Floyd: I love you on the dollar bill. lol

That's what I sorta always assumed, in a way. But I really am wondering if maybe it was half coincidence and half not, like they thought of the name Sam, then realized "hey, that matches up with Uncle Sam!" and so they went with that.

I had always assumed that. Maybe he TOOK the name for himself by deed-poll and his real name is Machette James Alabaster Jones
