Puppet Scars

So, I have just completed the head of my new puppet, but he isnt nearly as menacing as I would like, so Im thinking about adding scars to his face.

I will include a picture below, so you have an idea with what Im working with. Has anyone ever put a scar on a puppets face? It is antron fleece, and tied Tan.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Ha ha ha, I struggle to make my stitches not to look like scars...

Try making a ladder stitch, without pulling, using yarn or a thick thread. First do a long line --------- and then perpendicular smaller lines like this -|-|-|-|-|-|-|-. maybe the long one with a color similar to your puppet skin and the other with a complementing color.

If your wanting to make a open scar I would paint it on using red Brown and black paint. i wouldn't cut it, it may widen and show more foam than you want

I kind of like his eyes they look psychotic, add a scar he would look like a really scary.

Use the same fleece but dye it slightly darker/redish tint. You can sew it right on to the antron and it will look like a scar.

If you want to avoid a slight build up of fleece (because of adding a second layer of fleece), you can cut away the strip of original fabric and replace it with the darker reddish fabric.

One thing that also helps the scars look more realistic is puckering, bulging and irregularity. In this case, sloppy sewing will help. You want the scars attached securely, but pull your stitches tighter than you normally would and you'll get the misshaping that will make your scar look good. Another technique you might try is embroidery using the stem stitch, and a thread that is a similar color to the fleece.

I would do what jcnegron suggested but highlight the stitch with dark shade of tan, in chalk.

I was just thinking of how to make puppet scars! I'd try a slighty upraised area of "skin" with a thin sliver of skin-tone, glossy fabric sewn onto the face. But I am just conjecturing. The other replies seem much more experienced!
