Or if you can't, then at least keep him in your thoughts...

Since last Christmas or so, he shocked the family by saying he had decided to join the Marines, and as of yesterday, that finally happened: he was sworn-in as of yesterday, and he's been shipped out for several grueling weeks of basic training in boot camp down in South Carolina (then I believe he has to serve another several weeks of basic in California afterwards... then they'll probably ship him out to the Middle East somewhere).

Needless to say, my aunt is having a difficult time coping with this, but we all are. I do hope he's got what it takes though, after all, those Marines are @$##!ne tough, yo... life around here's not gonna be the same without him, that's for sure.

I'll be praying for your cousin D'Snowth, and your whole family too.
Will you guys find out where he'll be deployed?

We're assuming somewhere in the Middle East with all the conflict going on out there and everything, but we're not exactly sure at the moment, we just know he was shipped out for basic in SC for the next several weeks.

As a military brat, I'd just like to point out that about half the time someone has to actually sign up for the war zone tours. Even then, if he is sent to the Middle East, it's probably Afghanistan where the conflict is a less boiling over- the marines there are trying to teach the people how to stand up for themselves without killing others.

But I'll be sure to include him in.

I sure know what you are going through. My uncle joined the military when I was like...four. Not knowing whats gonna happen...I can't remember what war he fought in but he did fight in some semi major war.

He's fine, by the way. He retired from military service like 12 years ago

Uh...Afghanistan LESS boiling?? Are you discounting the many attacks on military personnel and cops there just this past month??

Snowth, I don't pray, but nevertheless I will hope for your cousin's sake he's deployed to, say, Germany instead! I have an ex-Marine stepbrother. He's glad to be out, but the Corps did help him get his life together in ways his parents and teachers couldn't. Hope it's similar for your cuz.

I'll pray for your cousin, Snowthy, and your aunt too. I too have had some friends whose kids have gone to the Middle East and made it home okay. And I pray that he will make it through marine training and have a happy life in the future. In the Name of Jesus, AMEN!

So far, it doesn't sound like things are going too smoothly for him during basic training... my aunt recently received a letter from him, apparently the drill sergeant has been a little extra rough on him, since apparently he hasn't been speaking when spoken too loud enough (ya know, the whole, "SIR! YES SIR, SERGEANT WHOEVER, SIR!" kind of thing).

Heck, we're even having to be extra careful about what we write to him, in the event that the drill sergeant or someone mocks him by reading the letter aloud, sort of like how mean teachers would read notes aloud in class if he/she saw it being passed around.

Thanksgiving will be odd this year... because he'll be graduating from Paris Island the day before Thanksgiving, so naturally, my aunt and uncle will be traveling down for his graduation... so with them gone, and my uncle's mother probably not showing up either (she only recently began attending our holiday dinners) and of course my sister and her family tend to not show up, and my nana does the same... looks likeit'll just be me and my parents for Thanksgiving this year.
