As you've already heard by now, Disney bought Pixar for about $7.5 billion a few days ago, and now comes word that the first new move ... is to scrap the "Toy Story 3" project -- at least for now.
From the AP Wire comes the new tidbit: "One immediate sign of Lasseter's influence is that plans for Disney to make the long rumored sequel "Toy Story 3" on its own have been scrapped. If the film is made, it will be done by Lasseter and the other creators of the original film, the companies said."

--

Seems like the old Pixar gang didn't take too well to the idea of Disney's TS3 announcement, which might just have been a bargaining move, anyway."

Well, while a new TS would be fun, I have no doubt that an original idea might be a better move for their first reunion flick. I'm still very optomistic.

It would have been an awful sequel, and everyone at Disney/Pixar knows it (it wasn't even started by Pixar staff to begin with). If anyone knows how to treat his characters, it's Lasseter. So far, he's doing a great job as head of the feature animation department.

I'm still realing from the news of the Pixar buyout. I thought they were thinking about it, didn't know they did it. Scared me half to death... almost as bad as when I heard they bought the Muppets. I still wish it was all just a crazy dream.

But I AM thrilled John L wanted them to ax such an awful Idea. TS 3 would best be left to Pixar who knows how to do a sequal (though, the other Lion Kings and Extreemely Goofy Movie have been very good, still haven't seen Emperor's new Grove 2 yet.) I mean, seriously. TS2 blew the first one out of the water. more character developement, more plot twists, and improved animation.

What's wrong with a Toy Story 3 Dan?

I think the actual story is rather interesting...but a little to similiar to the plot of Toy Story 2.

There is one problem though: Jim Varney is no longer with us, and he was the voice of Slinky Dog: one of the core members of the cast. So does that mean they'll get a new voice actor, or retire Slinky all together? This is similiar to a situation with "The Rescuers" movies. After the sequel in 1990, they were going to a third one, but sadly, Eva Gabor died, and her character as Miss Bianca just couldn't be replaced: same with John Candy, who played Wilbur, (since the guy who did the voice of Orville in the original movie died years earlier), also died around the same time.

Just my 2 cents worth.:smirk:
