I saw some of them behind the scenes clips on swazzle. One of them showed one of the builders painting the pupils on the eyes.

How do they do this with enough precision for the eyes to be in the right place? Do they draw on it first? How is it measured? Does one paint the eyes before or after they're set in?

differnet artist have different levels of skill, it all comes with expieience, if u like the look of something then try it yourself, you will only learn how to do these things thru trial and error, a good artist almost always makes something look easy, but the steps they took to learn and fine tune thier talents are rarely as neat and clean as the final result.

Hi Ravagefrackle, your quote above reminds me of an Italian word I learned not to long ago:

Sprezzatura
It means; "A difficult act done so skillfully as to make it appear easy -or- the art of concealing art."

The Easy way to make nice clean cirular muppet pupils

Albeit not the genuine muppet method.
I basically just did what Kanja Chen did (on his Darth Maul) with electrical tape, only instead of cutting it with an exacto or a scissor to a perfectly neat circle I ran it through a circle paper punch thats cuts at about 5/8".

Nice. Neat. Pupils. And I have the advantage of repisitioning them in case I screw up. God bless the tape called electric.

I gotta get the puppet I've been working on done. You guys'll be amazed what can be done with those dumb plastic ornaments they sell at Michael's. And what's more, they're cheap, transparent (so you can paint them from the back) and they sell them year round. They also come in 3 and 4 inch versions.
