Has anyone ever seen those rare moments when Oscar is actually nice? I can remember a few times this happened.

In the 1983-1984 season Telly gets lost and Oscar ends up getting really worried about him and wants Telly to come back and tries hard to look for him.

In the 1985-1986 Elmo is sitting on the brown box beside Oscar's trashcan and he gets a hug Goodnight from all the humans on Sesame Street. He asks Oscar to give him a hug and Oscar says "No way!" or something like that. and Elmo starts crying because he thinks Oscar doesn't like him. Then Oscar comes out of his can and gives Elmo a Big Hug and says he does like Elmo.

Can anyone else think of when Oscar showed his better side?

Two instances:

1) Back in the late 1970's, Oscar's trash can was either stolen or taken away accidentally by the sanitation dept.

He was so distraught that Luis and Maria decided to take a newer garbage can and "dirty" it up just like Oscar's old one by banging dents into it and rolling it around it in dirt (hence the reason why Oscar's can changed during the decade). At the end of the episode, I remember Luis placing it onto the barrel next to the stoop and Oscar being at a loss of words to express his gratitude.

Anyway, that episode showed Oscar's vulnerable side. Kinda like when Big Bird lost his nest in the hurricane of 2001.

2) When Maria gave birth to Gabi in 1989, I remember Luis coming home from the hospital and knocking on Oscar's can to tell him that they had a baby girl. And though Oscar didn't want to publicly show his softer side, he waited til Luis walked away and popped out to give his friend Maria, aka "Skinny," a congratulatory phone call.

I seem to recall at least one episode where Oscar got the "grouch flu" which made him be nice to everyone. I think he was over it by the end of the episode. I can't remember when it aired but I think it was late 70's-early 80's.

I also remember an episode where one of the Amazing Mumford's tricks turned Oscar nice and turned Gordon into a grouch, if you want to count that one.

Oscar is really nice to his pet worm, Slimey. He really cares for him deeply. Oscar stands up for him when Slimey didn't do so good in the worm Winter Olympics.

And Oscar supported Slimey when he got to go to the moon. And missed him terribly when Slimey was gone all this time. But Slimey's little sister, Sloppy, came to spend some time with Oscar which made him happy.

And today, Oscar reads Slimey the Adventures of Trash Gordon every night and then tucks him into bed.

Caroll Spinney says that Oscar really does have a heart of gold.

Oscar can be nice

Once back in the late 70's, Maria and a Muppet lady went out somewhere, and Oscar was asked to watch the lady's daughter. The girl was painfully shy, and anxious over being separated from her mother. But somehow she really warmed up to Oscar, and Oscar showed genuine affection for her.
The two were having the time of their lives playing in the garbage. At the end of the day it was time for the girl to go, and she got very upset over having to leave Oscar. But our grouchy friend invited her to come back anytime, and even Maria was impressed how big a heart Oscar can have.

NOW SCRAM!!!!! :grouchy: :grouchy: :grouchy:

Big Bird once said Oscar had a "heart of stone". This was on Hollywood Squares.
