Hi guys,

I gotta make a artistic decision which is important to me (and probably no one else ever...but that's beside the point.)

I wrote a screenplay about 2 years ago, with an original concept, original characters, etc, which I utterly LOVE...but have been too busy to try and send anywhere or sell.

Now, my parents are connected to several producers and things in tv and have been bugging me to put together a pitch for it, to try and sell it...But, frankly, I am no longer interested in selling this particular comedy screenplay.

I am trying to develop a more sophisticated 'voice' of my own, for magazine articles and things. I don't really have the time, nor the love to return to this old project to try and sell it.

However, the other options given are to either give the screenplay over completely to my parents and have nothing else to do with it, let them sell it if they want to. Or else, to just leave it in a drawer for another few years (or forever.)

Any thoughts from the creative people among you? What would you do if it was your creation?

Well, Beau, here's what I have to say about the matter...

You need to do whatever it is that you feel your heart and soul is in at the moment, and if that's for magazine articles and such, then I say you should go for that.

I know what it's like, several years ago I was working on an animated short, but after a while, I as just fed up with doing cartoons (animation, comic strips, etc)... and to this day, the short STILL isn't finished, and I don't plan on finishing it ever, because cartooning isn't what I want to do, as my heart and soul is into puppetry.

I'd say keep your screenplay as a momento. Maybe something you can glance over when you feel like taking a trip down memory lane, or if you just want to review some of your own old work. Just be sure to never sell the rights to anything you own to anyone else, because there are big companies out there that are going to try to take your creations away from you and profit off them themselves.

Considering the fact that I'm still in school and not actually doing this yet, you should take my advice with a grain of salt.

I'd at least wait and see if you begin to feel interested in it again because pitches seems to go better when you have passion behind it. I've always been told that you have to learn to eventually let go of a script if you want to sell it which is sound advice. But if there is more to this than just selling I'd wait. I would keep that in mind though if you do decide to sell it that someone's probably going to change it at some point.
