New York film locations used on Sesame Street

if i were to ever visit NYC, i would want to visit locations of where many of the films made for SS were made. especially those made in the early years. visit all the locations the original alphabet film were they find letters in different places,the rooftop restaurant where they filmed that flower. the train film where the guy's singing the sound on the train. you can hear the rolling wheels on the train. it be nice to visit the park David & Maria were trying to find each other at that bridge. and besides going by were SS is taped now even try to find the old Teletape Studios where SS used to be taped and even The Electric Company were taped. oh 1 last thing is to visit Will Lee's and Northern Calloway's burriels. i would like to visit the other now deciest SS people though i understand Henson ashes are scattered and i don't know the story on Matt Robinson.

A few points of interest

Well, in Central Park you can go to the Children's Zoo where you can find the letter Z, and choose from about a half-million Con Edison manhole covers for the letter C. The carousel is still there where Big Bird took a ride.

The bridge where David and Maria tried to find each other above and below, ... well, there's only 42 bridges in Central Park built like that, so any one could be it.

The Teletape Studios was at Broadway and 81st Streets, but last time I checked was an office building now and not open to the general public.

The Ed Sullivan Theatre at Broadway and 50th Streets where the Muppets performed 25 times from 1966 to 1971 is now home for the Late Show with David Letterman

The Museum of Television and Radio that has an extensive Sesame/Muppet collection is located at 25 West 52nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, just a block away from Rockefeller Center.

thought i'd revive this post again for some of the newer folks here and add another. for all the Paul Benedict number painting skits, it would be nice to find the exact locations they were made.

SS is actually filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Long Island City NY. I know they've been filming there for a great many years. It's the same studio we shot the Chris Rock film "Bad Company" in. Great stage!

Oh, man....you have GOT to go to NYC someday. Any Sesame fan must go there at least once to catch the vibe. When I was in Central Park, I swear I kept thinking I was going to see Big Bird running out in front of me with Snuffy in tow! Anyway, yeah....I don't think anyone knows much about Matt Robinson except he passed away in L.A., and Jim Henson's ashes were scattered in New Mexico.
However, if you ever do visit New York, here's the information about Northern and Will Lee. Northern Calloway is buried at the same cemetery that Judy Garland and a host of other celebrities are buried. It's called "Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum" in Hartsdale, NY.
Will Lee is at Cypress Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Central Park is huge, I go all the time and I still haven't covered the whole area. I've always wondered if parts of SS were shot in parts of Brooklyn. There are some areas that look very very familiar.
