At Pixar, different key animators take turns directing their films, from John Lasseter, Andrew Staton, Peter Doctore, etc. What if the Muppets were like that? Let's say all the key Muppeteers took turns directing the Muppet films. What kind of director, do you think they'd be and would they do a good job? Like, what if Jim directed The Muppet Movie, or Frank directed Great Muppet Caper, or Jerry Nelson directed Muppets take Manhattan, etc.

Brian Henson directed MCC and MTI, Frank Oz directed MTM and Jim Henson directed GMC. It is only the first and the last Muppet films (the best and the worst respectively) that were directed outside the Muppeteer fold. Bill Barretta has also been directing the Muppets.com sketches. I don't know. Sometimes I think that what makes a good performer doesn't always translate into the director's chair. I am sure some wouldn't want to do it, while others might. Directing is a pretty heavy job. It takes a certain type to handle it.

I would like to see Frank come back. Bill and Brian would likely be interested. I'm not so sure about Dave Goelz or Steve Whitmire. It would be interesting to get their take.

I do recall Dave saying in an interview that he had been interested in directing in the past but became too busy. And I think it's possible Richard might have gone on to direct movies, he had started directing other Muppet projects and was Production Consultant for Faffner Hall.

Both possibilities are quite intriguing!

Right on; The Honk of Honks is one of the best FR episodes, since it's got the emotional complexity you usually don't see in children's shows.

That's true, heralde - Richard was taking on a number of directing jobs in the late 1980s, so it is very likely that he was in training to direct a future Muppet movie. It would have been really cool to see what he would have come up with.

I believe Kevin Clash has directed some episodes of Sesame Street.
