Happy birthday! Muppet Central is now 28 years old. The site and our original forum debuted 28 years ago on January 28, 1998. Muppet Central Radio began two years later on January 28, 2000.

Back when the site first started the Jim Henson Company still owned all of their original properties including the Muppets and Sesame Street. Two new feature films were in development simultaneously, "Muppets from Space" and "Elmo in Grouchland". The Children's Television Workshop was gearing up for its upcoming 30th anniversary and the Jim Henson Company was developing an ambitious sci-fi series that would eventually become Farscape. Even though many changes have occurred throughout the EM.TV and Disney years, we’ve been honored to be a small part of it and to provide a place for fan discussion and interaction.

We want to thank all of the staff, past, and present who have given so much of their time and giftings to make Muppet Central a great place. Every member here is a vital part of what makes Muppet Central special. Thanks for doing your part in keeping Jim Henson’s vision of the Muppets alive. We believe great days are ahead.

While we’re celebrating 28 years, we are also looking toward the future. Read the below questions and let us know your predictions for 2026.

(1) What would you like to see from Disney and the Muppets in 2026? On February 4, we have the anticipated network primetime premiere of "The Muppet Show" starring Sabrina Carpenter. We can only hope that the special will lead to a modern-day revival of the characters at their best in the Muppet Show theater. On February 17, it will have been 22 years since Disney bought the Muppet characters and Bear in the Big Blue House. Hopefully, "Muppets Tonight" will finally debut on Disney+ in 2026. We should also learn more about Disney's plans for Muppet Vision 3D's potential relocation and the premiere of the Muppets Rock 'n' Roller Coaster next summer at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

(2) What would you like to see Sesame Workshop produce or release in 2026? Sesame Street is in the process of reinventing itself by moving Sesame Street Season 56 episode premieres to Netflix and PBS. We will likely see more specials and exclusive content for Netflix. One of the highlights for Sesame Street fans continues to be NECA's Ultimate Sesame Street action figures and the weekly debut of retro episodes on the new Sesame Street Classics YouTube channel.

(3) What are your hopes for new productions from the Jim Henson Company in 2026? We're hopeful that "Back to the Rock" will remain in production for years and lead to more classic projects, such as the upcoming Emmet Otter film and the new Storyteller series. The fantastic Boss Studios Fraggle Rock action figure line continues with the anticipated release of classic Mokey and in-scale-sized Doozers. This year will also honor the 40th anniversary of Labyrinth.

Share your opinions in this discussion and let us know what you think will happen with the Muppets in this upcoming year.

Happy birthday everyone!
