The veteran Muppet performer Louise Gold has two nominations in the Broadway World’s ‘West End Awards’: http://www.broadwayworld.com/westend/vote2015region.cfm So if anyone is thinking about voting in these awards, you might want to consider voting for Louise.

Gypsy The Musical (whose production Louise is currently in) has been nominated for a total of 15 awards.

Louise is one of four people from Gypsy and many many other talented actresses nominated for ‘Best Featured Actress In A New production of a Musical’: http://www.broadwayworld.com/westen...323&region=UK / West End#sthash.e4ukxlSK.dpbs - she has been nominated for her performance as Mazeppa, (for which she had trumpet lessons, so that she would know how to play the trumpet properly for the part). But there are lots of great West End actresses up for that award, several of whom I think could be very deserving candidates.

However, far far more exciting IMHO is that Louise has been nominated for ‘Understudy of the Year in any production of a Play or Musical (Female): http://www.broadwayworld.com/westen...338&region=UK / West End#sthash.t8wzNo4U.dpbs - Louise is one of two people from Gypsy nominated (the other is Lauren Hall for playing Gypsy Rose Lee). Howeve what makes this truly exciting is that Louise Gold is nominated for the 3 performances where she played the all important Ethel Merman role of Mama Rose. – Sadly I did not get to see this. But knowing what Louise Gold is like at doing Merman roles (I have seen her in Concert Stagings of four others ), I feel sure that she must’ve been really something and throughly deserving of an award for this. – If you’ve seen her Sesame Street performances of ‘I Get A Kick Out Of U’ (when she parodied Merman), or her performance of ‘Anyone’s Nose’ or for that matter her ‘Blue Fish Blues on TMS, you might have some idea of why I think this.

I don’t mind whether she wins the Featured Actress award (of course it would be lovely if she did). but there are several very deserving candidates. However, I would so love her to win the award for female understudy. Because it’s for the role of Mama Rose, a Merman role.

When I first came across Louise Gold, over twenty years ago, in the Lost Musicals concert staging of Red Hot & Blue (another Merman musical). I remember being so struck by her performance, and without knowing anything about her multitalents, found myself thinking “Oh wouldn’t she be a great person to play Mama Rose in Gypsy). It was only later that i gradually got to know more about her background, including her puppetry prowess. And in a way it was she who led me to discovering just how brilliant The Muppets are (from the point of view of being a serious Muppet buff that is). and also how I ended up building a fansite about her (http://www.qsulis.org.uk/Website_Louise_Gold/Start.htm )So if she were to win that award it award it would as it were recognise what first drew me to her and thence to The Muppets in the first place.
