The pianist Lang Lang has recorded two segments for the long-running PBS children's show Sesame Street, according to his web site.
The first of the scenes is titled "Lang Lang Auditions" and stars Bob McGrath, the music teacher on the show, and the muppet Oscar the Grouch. The second, called "Exercise to Music," pairs the pianist with the muppet Elmo. Both scenes will be broadcast on April 22, May 30, July 5, August 10, September 15, and October 21.
Sesame Street's past musical guests have included Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, James Galway, Itzhak Perlman, and Plácido Domingo.
The Chinese-born Lang Lang burst to prominence in 1999, at age 17, when he was a last-minute substitute for André Watts at the Ravinia Festival. He has since become an enormously popular ambassador for classical music, playing with leading orchestras in the United States and around the world.
