The problem with foam latex is that it uses chemicals to soften and make it more flexable which degrade quicker, plus with characters like hoggle the skin is placed over a fibreglass support with metal attachments for the servo motors, sometimes chemicals are used to aide in less friction between the skins and moving parts which rots the foam even quicker.
Latex masks usually last longer, and if foam is kept away from sunlight and not exposed to the air, it can last for years and years.. i wonder if any of the original hoggle heads and other characters and props are out there, be good to see someone looking after these props
