I used to find it interesting how Kermit The Frog was the only muppet character to be a regular cast member of both Sesame Street and The Muppet Show.Any other muppet character,it seemed, was either a regular on Sesame Street or The Muppet Show or Fraggle Rock.I understand better now however.Kermit simply originated on Sesame Street, and was later spun off to The Muppet Show.I also think, correct me if I,m wrong, that Kermit and the Muppet Show characters were originally owned by Jim Henson himself.[They were donated to Walt Disney Studios after Jim Henson died.]Whereas the Sesame Street characters are owned by The Childrens,Television Workshop. And If I,m not mistaken,Kermit was Jim Henson,s very first muppet creation.Apparently he was originally named Kermit The Muppet.I,ve even seen Kermit on The Ed Sullivan Show a few times.

Disney have never owned the muppets. After Jim's death the family continued to own the company. Until the german company EM-TV bought it. And when EM-TV were in need of more mony they sold Sesame Street. And this summer the Henson family bought back the company without Sesame Street.

You are mistaken about that. The first puppets jim used on tv, 1954, was Pierre The French Rat, Longhorn & Shorthorn.
Kermit was created for the "Sam & Friends" show in 1955.
