This thought recently got into my mind. Is Muppet Labs a realistic kind of sketch for a variety show?

sure, they are comedy sketches, but in the universe of the show, the various mishaps are not intentional. I guess it’s two scientists showing off a talent - showing how their inventions work. Perhaps it’s a cheap way to advertise their latest inventions.

I guess they could be sponsoring or providing funding for the show, and that’s why they get put on.

Very interesting points you've raised minor.
They are relevant for consideration since Bunsen and Beaker are portrayed, not as actors playing roles in sketches, but as real scientists/inventors who genuinely believe their discoveries will shape the future of the way we live.
