Hey I just thought of this and thought it might be a fun thread.
I'd say that pretty much everyone on this board considers him-or-herself a Muppet expert. So, the question is, if you could teach a Muppet class for one semester, what would you teach it on?
For instance, would you like to teach a subject on the music of The Muppet Show? The different educational methods of the early Sesame Street years vs. the ones they use today? General Muppet History? Maybe you want to go really deep and study the religious allegories in Fraggle Rock. Basically what do you think you're most qualified to teach AND what you think would be fun and stimulating.
Try to make it like a real class summary, but only as detailed as you want it to be. For those of you not yet in college, here's an example:
Utopia of Fraggle Rock: How a children's television show manages to create the ideal society
In this class, students will study the societal structure of the Fraggles, the Doozers and the Gorgs and how they interconnect. We will mark the changes and adaptations they make throughout the four seasons. How does each group relate to each other? How do they relate within?
Obviously it doesn't have to be as heady as that, that was just the first thing that came to mind. Have fun with it--list required readings or episodes or films. What I think is really cool about this is that a bunch of people might want to teach about The Muppet Show, but one wants to concentrate specifically on guest stars, another on backstage chaos, someone else on the music hall numbers... The options are endless!
And if you think of a class you wouldn't want to teach yourself, still throw it out there. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it's fun coming up with little ideas.
Start coming up with some! I've got to take a moment to think...
