I FINALLY got a copy of Sesame Street Old-School today, and as I was watching it, I saw when Big Bird and Snuffy first met, and what the very first Snuffy looked like... and I can just tell that if I was a little kid at that time and I saw Snuffy liked that I would've been TERRIFIED! Those bulging, wonky green eyes, the sad look on his face, and the fact that he doesn't really look like the Snuffy we all know and love, he would've probably freaked me out! How long was he like that?

So glad I got "Old School"

I was born in 1992,(yes it sucks to be me:frown:),so I didn't see alot of the 70's material. There was some 70's material I used to see alot like the film with a baby messing around with a cookie with Cookie Monster wanting it,(like always),but I mostly saw 80's material like Sally Cruikshank's "Beginning Middle and End" and 90's material which I don't like anymore,(regarding some 90'd material like songs like "We Got the Power" and that rap song where kids rap about recycling),now that I'm older and I was so glad to get the "Old School" dvd,but I don't like the edits they put in there. Now my little brother will think that's how it was shown 35 years ago.Ah well. But still,I like the dvd but don't like being a 90's kid.

Yeah I first saw old Snuffy on Muppet Wiki, and I nearly jumped out of my chair! He looked like a really big bug! Lol.

Then again, it sort of goes along with that song Snuffy sang in Sesame Street Live years ago, the one they always play on MC radio. I don't remember the exact lyrics but Snuffy says people enjoy pretty things like Spring and love, but things that are different make people afraid sometimes. I love when Sesame Street teaches those kinds of these. That scary can also be nice.

When I first found out that the adults originally thought he was Big Bird's imaginary friend, I wondered how kids felt during his first appearance. I figured kids would think it didn't have a happy ending, since Big Bird wouldn't have convinced the adults that he was real. The kids probably wouldn't have known yet that he was mean tto be a regular character until his next appearance, and I don't know if kids would have paid attention to news reports about Sesame Street (I guess there was probably some news reports about the third season that mentioned Snuffy) That was before I knew that very few early episodes had plot focus in the street scenes. When I saw Snuffy's first appearance, it didn't seem to have too sad of an ending (it would have been sadder if there were several scenes involving Big Bird trying to convince the others that he was real).

But one thing I wonder, for those children of the 1970s: Were you confused whenever Snuffy interracted with children?

Why would anyone watching find it confusing that kids would interact with snuffy?

I think the reason the kids always knew about Snuffy, is because nobody probably figured the adults wouldn't believe the kids if they ever tried telling them that they also saw Snuffy. They would probably just figure they were going along with Big Bird's story because they were young like him, and played along with his whole imaginary friend ordeal. There was a similar situation on The Flinstones during the last Season with the Great Gazoo. Nobody else but friend and Barney could see the great Gazoo, but Pebbles and Bamm Bamm (the kids) could see him. And they were seen interacting with him twice. So it was pretty similar.

I'm PROUD of being a 90's kid of Sesame Street. Around the Corner rocked!( Even though I love watching Classic Sesame sometimes).

Same here!! I HATE being a child of the '90s, that era just sucked! Sure, it was the decade of Furbys and Spice Girls and Ren & Stimpy, blah blah blah, but there wasn't anything THAT great, seriously. The fashion was just... totally casual (except there was that tie-die comback fad. That was great). Not pychedelic like the '60s or disco like the '70s or flamboiant like the '80s or anything and the music was just ordinairy (that's just MY opinion). I would've loved to have been born in the '50s or something and be a teen in the '60s or '70s, that would've ROCKED! Plus, the music was great back then. And the telly. Take SS for example. I love the show, obviously, but I'm just not into the new series. I'll watch Play With Me Sesame (cause they sometimes play older clips) when I can but I hardly bother with the new stuff.

Erm, anyway, getting back to the Snuffy thing, I was shocked when I saw thim the first time on SS Old School! I thought it was like, his brother or something, lol! I was relieved when they changed him to the Snuffy we all know and love later on.
